Fosamax Femur Lawyers Encouraged By New Study Publication
Fosamax Femur Lawyers have something to be happy about, as a recent publication by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) solidified their cases.
JAMA’s February 2011 issue published a study entitled “Bisphosphonate Use and the Risk of Subtrochanteric or Femoral Shaft Fractures in Older Women”. This study reveals that there is long term risks of taking Bisphophonate type drugs, these drugs, which include Fosamax, are supposed to treat osteoporosis. Fosamax for over 5 years have about a 3 percent high chance of suffering from a femoral shaft fracture than those who used the drugs for fewer than 100 days.
One other result the study showed is that the Bisphophonate family, which include: Foxamax (made by Merck & Co.), Boniva (Roche), and Reclast (Novartis Pharmaceuticals), has the potential to cause atypical femur fractures. An atypical fracture is a fracture that occurs from little or no trauma to the bone. The May/June 2008 issue of Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma have reports that find that more than one-third of patients who suffered a femoral stress fracture resulting from a low-energy impact (a fall from standing height or less) had been taking Fosamax for an average of four years or more.
The studies have helped the 100 cases filed against Fosamax manufacturer Merck & Co., these cases claim that Merck failed to do proper research on the drug as well give proper warning to its consumers about the potentially dangerous side effects of the drug. Cases against Merck concerning jaw bone death have already been placed in Multidistrict Litigation in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey since 2006, one bellwether trail has already been finished in regards to this. The cases that have to deal with Femur Fractures however, have been purposely separated from the jaw bone death claims since the types of injures being claim are extremely different.
